Graduating Artist Feature: Adam Elbohy
Adam began playing the violin at 6 years old at his school program in Florida. He always enjoyed playing violin and he wanted to be a musician ever since he can remember. At first, he wanted to be a composer as he loved listening to video games music. But once he started high school, Adam began to take violin practice more seriously. During his sophomore year of high school, he was drawn more towards classical music and especially discovering lesser-known pieces on YouTube.
After moving to Philadelphia in 2016, Adam started taking lessons with his current teacher, Margaret Dziekonski and joined PMAY in 2022. He is a member of the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra and participated in Project 440’s Instruments for Success. He spent his summers at Encore and Meadowmount. He was able to play great repertoire and create a community of musicians that he feels close to and have fun during rehearsals. “I have made many good friends in my youth orchestra. My stand partner Rishab is a great friend of mine and I will miss playing together in orchestra”.
The college audition application process was initially arduous, especially all the required essays. However, when the auditions began, Adam found it enjoyable and he learned a lot after each audition, and thus, making the next audition easier. “I am appreciative of the PMAY masterclasses and monthly recital, as they have been extremely helpful in preparing me for college auditions. Visiting colleges and having lessons with college professors prior to the auditions gave me an insight to the student life.”
Although Adam loves music, science is also a passion of his. During the school year, he was able to help his high school chemistry teacher organize the school laboratory and TA different classes, which was a great experience for him and felt very rewarding. Adam will begin his double major in Chemistry and Violin Performance at Oberlin Conservatory in the Fall. He is very excited to be able to pursue both of his passions. One day, he hopes to win a position with a major orchestra and perhaps combine his two interests of science and music.
