Flute

• 4th & 5th Grade:

  • Audition requirements: 1 solo piece, 1 scale

  • Sample repertoire: Piece from Concert and Contest Collection for Flute

  • Scale requirements: 1-octave major scale through 3 sharps and 3 flats, chromatic scale from low-G to D above the staff. All scales are slurred up and tongued down, with even rhythm

• 6th & 7th Grade:

  • Audition requirements: 1 solo piece, 2 scales

  • Sample repertoire: Handel Sonata, Telemann Flute Sonata in F Major, Gaubert Madrigal, Faure Morceau de Concours, Schumann Romances

  • Scale requirements: 1-octave major scale - all keys; 1-octave harmonic minor scales through 3 sharps and 3 flats; chromatic scale from low-D to high-G; All Scales are slurred up and tongued down, with even rhythm

• 8th & 9th Grade:

  • Audition requirements: 2 contrasting solo pieces (or movements from different pieces), 2 scales

  • Sample repertoire: JS Bach Sonata, Telemann Fantasie, CPE Bach Hamburger Sonata, Godard Suite, Hue Fantasie, Saint-Saens Airs de Ballet d'Ascanio

  • Scale requirements: 2-octave major and harmonic minor scales, chromatic scale from low-B/C (depending on footjoint) to high-C. All Scales are slurred up and tongued down, with even rhythm

• 10th & 11th Grade:

  • Audition requirements: 2 contrasting solo pieces (or movements from different pieces), 2 scales

  • Sample repertoire: JS Bach Sonata, Telemann Fantasie, Piece from Flute Music by French Composers, Mozart Concerto, Ian Clarke Hypnosis, Bozza Image, Dutilleux Sonatine

  • Scale requirements: 2-octave major scale; 2-octave minor scales in all forms, chromatic scale from low B/C (depending on footjoint) to high-D. All Scales are slurred up and tongued down, with even rhythm
