Ms. browne, a cgym alumna,
WILL BE WORKING WITH STUDENTS IN THE
CENTER FOR GIFTED YOUNG MUSICIANS DURING THE CLASS.
Violist Sheila Browne is recognized internationally as an expressive soloist and chamber artist. She has concertized on six continents, including Carnegie- Stern, Lincoln Center, Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, London’s Royal Festival Hall, Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires, NCPA in Beijing and has recorded for the Sony, Nonesuch, Bridge, MSR, Swanstudios and Albany labels. She has premiered many new works, including two concerti and many other pieces written for her. She was a member of the internationally prize-winning Arianna String Quartet and Fire Pink Trio. Honored as a Primrose Memorial Recitalist, Browne has performed / recorded with Audra MacDonald, Gilbert Kalish, Paul Katz, Anton Kuerti, Ruth Laredo, Shenyang, Richard Stolzman, Carol Wincenc, the Diaz Trio, and members of the Amernet, Audubon, Attacca, Borromeo, Brentano, Calidore, Enso, Guarneri, Juilliard, Shanghai and Vermeer quartets. Sheila was Karen Tuttle’s Teaching Assistant at The Juilliard School as an undergraduate, also studying with famed soloist Kim Kashkashian in Germany, receiving a M.M. at Rice University with Karen Ritscher and Paul Katz’s Quartet Program. Chosen as the inaugural viola faculty member of Tianjin Juilliard School for its first three years, she gave masterclasses and performed in 16 countries on four continents. In demand as a teacher, she has given masterclasses at most major music programs in North America and at many schools abroad.
