Under the direction of Maestro Louis Scaglione, the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra celebrates the opening of its 83rd Anniversary Season on Sunday, November 13th at 7:00 p.m. with a thrilling program filled with iconic composers from the 20th century.
The evening’s concert will begin with Dmitri Shostakovich’s Festive Overture, followed by PYO’s debut of William Grant Still’s Symphony No. 4 “Autochthonous.” Also included in the program is Aaron Copland’s Lincoln Portrait, featuring guest narrator Dr. Allen C. Guelzo, who is Senior Research Scholar in the Council of the Humanities at Princeton University and Director of the James Madison Program’s Initiative in Politics and Statesmanship. The program concludes with a performance of Paul Hindemith’s Symphonic Metamorphosis of Themes by Carl Maria von Weber.
